Library Assistant I Position

This position is part-time:  Regular schedule is between 6 and 12 hours per week.  Monday 5:00pm-8:00pm; Wednesday 5:00pm to 8:00pm; every 4th Saturday 9:00am-3:00pm; first Wednesday of every month 9:00am-12:00pm for staff meeting.  
Salary range is $18- $23 per hour.

SCOPE OF WORK: Serve as front desk customer service. Provide technical and clerical support to patrons and fellow staff and to provide library technical expertise that complements and expands availability of library services.  Provide information services to the community by facilitating access to library resources including preparing materials and services; circulating materials; assisting patrons; answering questions and organizing materials. This position shall report to the Director.

Major Duties:
• Uses automated library systems to circulate materials to library users; reserve materials; set up new patron accounts.
• Shelves materials; ensuring materials on shelves are in order.
• Helps patrons locate library materials or online information and assists them with digital media, computer skills, and interlibrary loans.
• Performs all opening and closing procedures as necessary.
• Creates patron information brochures.
• Assists with programs and event planning for children and adults.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Knowledge and level of competency associated with some college. Sufficient experience to understand the basic principles relevant to the major duties of the job, or any equivalent combination of education and experience which demonstrates the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED FOR THE POSITION:  
Excellent customer service attitude. Excellent computer skills and ability to adapt to new software programs and emerging technologies. Skill in using electronic equipment. Ability to work effectively and cooperatively with staff, patrons and volunteers. Ability to work a flexible schedule that includes day, night and weekend hours as well as the ability to provide coverage for other shifts when available. Skill in the use of software such as Microsoft Office suite, Google email, Canva, internet browsers, and the ability to multitask. Part-time Library Custodian Position

Up to 10 hours per pay period of two weeks.  Mondays 5pm – 9pm. Occasional on-call hours.

Starting Salary Range: $18 - $21 per hour, depending on experience.

SCOPE OF WORK: Custodians are responsible for day-to-day cleaning of the library. Will act as the Library Handyperson in the case of broken lights, locks, and similar small repairs and maintenance. Responsible for creating and submitting purchase lists for the needed materials and supplies to stock and clean the library.  This position shall report to the IT Librarian.

Major Duties:

·        General cleaning, vacuuming, dusting, washing inside windows and glass doors, mopping floors, trash removal, cleaning bathrooms, stocking supplies.

·        Perform routine building maintenance and provide knowledgeable advice concerning larger building issues that need to be addressed.

·        Move or assemble furniture as needed.

·        Related work as required.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

High School Diploma or equivalent; previous experience in building maintenance and repair.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED FOR THE POSITION: 

Knowledge of custodial practices, procedures and housekeeping issues. Ability to use various custodial equipment, including vacuum cleaner. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others. Ability to understand and follow written and verbal instructions. Physical strength and agility sufficient to perform relatively light to moderate manual work as required.
