Author Joel Brown Presents on Writing

OH, SO YOU WANT TO WRITE? For heaven’s sake, why? And what about? How do you find your voice? What are some tips and tricks to help you start, keep writing, and finish? How should you approach revision? Is there life after NaNoWriMo?

In advance of November's National Novel Writing Month (NaNoWriMo), we get some answers from a veteran journalist and author, a professional who says he has “never had an honest job” since graduating from UNH with a BA in English. And there will be plenty of time for Q&A. Be ready to take notes.

No RSVP necessary. A copy of Joel's book, Mirror Ball Man, will be raffled off to one lucky attendee!

About the speaker:

JOEL BROWN is an award-winning staff writer for Boston University’s news website, BU Today, and its alumni magazine, Bostonia. Before that, he was a Boston Globe correspondent with more than 700 bylines, mainly in the Arts and Globe North sections. He previously worked for the Boston Herald, the Greenfield Recorder, and other newspapers and magazines. He has written four mysteries set in a town a lot like Newburyport, MA, where he has lived since 1998, as well as a guidebook to the North Shore of Massachusetts that still sells ten years after publication. He grew up in Exeter and graduated from UNH in Durham, where he majored in the student newspaper and pinball. He is a Cambridge, MA, native and a lifelong Red Sox fan, though he’s not very happy with team management right now.
