February & March: Susan Monty
ARTIST’S STATEMENT
I am a New Hampshire artist who specializes in celebrating animals and nature through art. I have worked in many mediums in the past, but currently I am focusing on pastel and watercolor. I have always loved the outdoors and all the animals I see there.
Horses have also been a love of mine since I was a child, and for 28 years I owned a horse, Scout, who appears in many of my equine paintings.
I love spending time in nature taking my own reference photos and have been lucky enough to see deer, bobcats, owls, foxes and many kinds of birds in my own backyard. Along with my detailed wildlife and pet portraits, I also create pen & ink and wash nature journals. I find much joy in chronicling the goings on in my backyard and what I see on “field trips” to places like Pickering Ponds in Gonic, NH and Plum Island in Massachusetts.
As a nature lover, I am very concerned about the environmental challenges that we face, such as loss of habitat, climate change, and lack of caring about nature. I use my art to display the beauty and importance of nature and all the creatures that share our planet.
